In the long ago beaver dammed the mouth of the Saint John river. It made a big pond for him, but it also flooded the homes of many other animals as muskrat and duck. Kluskap was called upon to save his many animal friends from the selfish beaver. Part of the tapestry design shows Kluskap chopping away as beaver sits glumly by. His axe is in a split rock which you can see at the base of the falls when the tide is low.
