Skiing is a sport, hobby, and form of transportation that involves travelling over snow using a pair of long, flat runners known as skis that are attached or bonded to shoes or boots.
Skiing Equipment:
Early sport and enjoyment skis were made of a single piece of wood, usually hickory, but laminated constructions were popular in the 1930s. Plastic running surfaces on the bottoms of skis were introduced in the 1950s, increasing their speed and durability. Skis were commonly produced in the 1990s by encasing a foam core in wood, wrapping both layers in fiberglass with Kevlar, aluminum, titanium, or carbon for strength, and finishing with a plastic base.
